Why pancakes are fluffy... and another great sale.

FOODS THAT MAKE LIFE LOVELY...CONTINUED
I told you life would be nothing without cheese a couple of days ago....but, you know what else life would be terrible without?

Bread.  Need I say more?

Probably not, but I'm going to.  Bread or carbs in general are another one of those things that I just would be crushed to live without.

That's me, Sister Crystal
& Brother Tommy
Here's a story for you:
There was once a girl who hated pancakes and wanted to cry every time she heard her brother or sister request them for breakfast.  One day, this girl discovered something magical.... pancakes need not consist of Bisquik.  Wow!

If you couldn't guess, I was the damsel in distress.  I'm sure that Bisquick holds a special place in Mothers' hearts all over America, but in mine, it does not.  But you want to know what does?

Baking Soda.
Baking Powder.
Eggs.
Salt.
Yeast.

All of the wonderful things that turn flour into different delectable textures and help bubbles rise to make pancakes fluffy and magical!

Shelf Reliance doesn't sell yeast YET but I'm sure if we beg enough we can get it on the list.  For those of you who agree that life would not be the same if you didn't have at least a daily dose of carbs, please join me in requesting Shelf Reliance add yeast to their list of products to add to the list.

In the past, I've bought my yeast at Sams because they have a fantastic price on bulk yeast.  The only downside to this is that it is not long term shelf stable.  However, if you can, put yours in the freezer and that will extend the life of the yeast significantly!

Cinnamon Struessal Pancakes

For some of my favorite pancake recipes and a bread machine wheat bread (This means being too busy in not an excuse for not making bread!)
Cinnamon Struessal
Cornmeal Pancakes  I have my own recipe adapted from this one and thought I'd posted it already, but I'll have to do that once life has slowed down after the move :)
Apple Wheat Pancakes
Whole Wheat Machine Bread

Don't forget to stock up on baking soda, baking powder, and salt when buying other baking essentials.  I would hate for you to have to rely on Bisquik :)

What are your favorite bread, or breakfasty food recipes?

Eggs Pack a Powerful Punch

Although I don't remember everything from my freshman year in college, I will never forget learning in biology that eggs were a perfect, complete non-meat protein.  Why does that matter my friends?  Well, back then I HATED, I mean HATED beans.  This is probably silly coming from a girl who encourages you to put beans in your desserts now. But what can I say, I was extremely misguided.

WHO CARES?
Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that if you have a little picky eater who will not eat beans yet and you haven't learned how to sneak them into other food, this is a great way to make sure they have their protein.  And as you all are already well aware, I love our eggs!

Now, this is not the only 12 pack I am able to offer.  For all of you no joke preppers, there is a list at the bottom of all of the 12 packs Shelf Reliance lets me offer at an incredible price. This is a limited time sale.  A new price list is coming October 2nd, so stay tuned in case the price changes.

Click Here to find out more about
Whole Egg Powder
WHOLE EGG POWDER 12 PACK $179.99
(12) Whole Egg Powder #10

This saves you about $6.50 per can as compared to buying them individually.  So... a savings of almost $80 overall is not too shabby!

(I bet I surprised you with the contents of that package, huh?!)

NOT WANTING 12 CANS OF EGGS?
If you know you need eggs, but aren't planning to provide protein for many people, the Baking Essentials package might be just what you need.  It gives you a little variety by also letting you try some of the other things that make baking yummy. (AKA butter and shortening) This is another one of the packages that are emptying our shelves as of late.

BAKING ESSENTIALS PACKAGE $88.29
(3) Instant Milk
(1) Butter Powder
(1) Shortening Powder
(1) Whole Egg Powder

When compared to buying it online, this is like paying for just the Instant Milk and Butter Powder and getting the Shortening Powder and Whole Egg Powder for FREE!!!

Plus, you'll really want shortening to make homemade tortillas.

While we're talking baking... tomorrow I will explain why I don't like Bisquick

Say Cheese!

As promised, I am going to let you in on more of the fantastic sales going on.  I know that the new price list is coming out on October 2nd, but do not yet know what things are going up or down, so I would suggest if any of these sales call out to you that you grab them before they are gone!

WHAT'S LIFE WITHOUT CHEESE?

Okay, tell me honestly, what would your life be like without cheese?  When I talk to people who have had to go Dairy-free, the most commonly missed food item is almost invariably cheese.

It is the magic in most casseroles and in many soups.  I love it in salad and of course quesadillas or grilled cheese- make that most sandwiches.  So what is life without cheese? Nothing.

Maybe that's a little dramatic.  Let's just say life is slightly empty.

On to the sale...

CHEESE VARIETY 6 PACK
For sale is a case of THRIVE's top quality Cheese Variety Pack.  This pack contains #10 cans of the following;
(3) FD Cheddar Cheese (*a savings of $5 off retail each)
(1) FD Monterey Cheese (*a savings of almost $6 off retail)
(1) FD Mozzarella Cheese (*a savings of $1 off retail)
(1) FD Colby Cheese (*a savings of almost $8 retail)

This averages out to $41.99 a piece or in Colby's case 1.058 per oz.  When buying an individual can of Colby Cheese* it is 1.254 per oz so this is a significant savings.

*Compared to buying individually at retail pricing.

Shine On!

A big part of preparedness that is often forgotten is how to survive should the power grid go down. You could lose power for a number of reasons.  So whether its do to a natural disaster, or some sort of attack on the our utilities, or the economy acting wonky and forcing us to do without things that have become too expensive, I believe its important for these events.

What are some of the main things we use electricity for?

If you said light or cooking, you win!

I will just be introducing two products that will assist you in these fields.  If you are looking for other excellent products, something I've been very impressed with so far is the Sun Oven for cooking and Solar Radio for communication.  Please read more about the Sun Oven here or Solar Radio here..

To order any of these products, simply click on the picture to be taken to my discount website.  Please log in using your email rather than as a guest to get maximum discount pricing.

LIGHT

Solar Crank Lanter

This 12 LED lantern is popular due to its easiness to use around children.
No worrying about oil spilling and causing a fire or getting to hot for a child to touch.
Because it is solar and crank operated, you won't have to worry about storing enough oil to last for long periods of time, or rotating oil so it won't go bad.
There are a few reviews on the website as well.

For more details, you can watch this quick video.

COOKING

Crank Blender
Have you thought about what you are going to do when it comes to food prep?
We use our food processor ALL the time.  Really, its probably one of my most used appliances
I love this crank blender because it has 2 speeds and comes with the clamp to hold it down to the surface so you can really put your back into the cranking process :)

Here is a video I found about someone experiencing the crank blender for the first time.
I apologize for the music.  Please put on silent!

Is Your Sweet Tooth Calling?

As you probably already know, Shelf Reliance hired on an exclusive chef, Chef Todd, who is an AMAZING cook.  He gets paid to mess around with Shelf Reliance food and behind-the-scene product all day.  How cool is that?

Well, if you haven't already noticed, the sales this month are over all things delicious.

I guess that's every month.

Hm.... it's on all things mouth watering and tempting... but you know you have to eat your veggies first or you have to go to bed early.  (Do you remember that one as a kid?  Do you use it on your kids? Yeh, me too :)

To get any of these awesome recipes simply click on the picture to be take there.

Ok, so it's all about desserts.  As if the brownie mix couldn't get any better, he turned it into this:

Easy Brownie Parfait
And thanks to our new Egg White Powder, he created this Heavenly dessert:
Yes, that pun was intended, thank you for the pity smile.

Angel Food Cake
Too fluffy for you?  Try the ultra filling Palmer Oatmeal Cake:

Palmer Oatmeal Cake

Chocolate you say? Need more chocolate?  How about 4 types of chocolate?

Quad Chocolate Chip Cookies

And finally, what's dessert without a little cheesecake, also made possible thanks to our Egg Powder.  I'm telling you, it's a must have!

Strawberry Cheesecake

There you have it folks.  Chef Todd must've been told he was losing too much weight from how healthy our food was.  He has to keep up with appearances and all.  Hope you click on at least one of these recipes and love it.  Though I love chocolate, the Cheesecake is just screaming out to me.  If I hadn't just packed up all of my food for moving this week, I would be making this RIGHT NOW!

our Instant Brown Rice
I would have to say the #1 product I've been asked about is Brown Rice.  Everyone says, I wish so badly that you guys had brown rice and I've told them, they're looking into it, but the oils make it difficult to store long term.  When I got this announcement email I knew I had to post it ASAP since many of you have been waiting for this jewel.  This product is available today so you can add it to your Q or order it online immediately. I did! Ahem...and I ordered it for a few friends.

Hey, give me a break.  I've REALLY been looking forward to this!

You want to know the best part?  A lot of us who have wanted to have brown rice in our food storage or home store know that because of healthy oils that are in brown rice, it doesn't store long (about 1 year tops).

What is the shelf life of THRIVE Instant Brown Rice? Shelf Reliance reords the shelf life of THRIVE Instant Brown Rice is 7 years!  Now that rocks my world! :)

Without further adieu...

Thoughts on Freeze Dried Meat

We all have opinions on whether or not meat should be included in food storage.  For some people its, not even a question, it's a no brainer.  Others point out the idea that if you are building a home store in case of an emergency, you are probably going to be trying to live on the basics so that you can buy more bulk and you'll be happy to just have food.

Then the carnivores say, "But experts say that if you don't have what you are used to, many times people starve rather than choosing to eat because they would rather have their comfort food."

So then herbivores say, "Then eat your food storage now and get comfortable!"

Ok... so basically its like fighting a losing battle.  I understand you've got to choose a plan that works for you.  Because there are so many people who ask about meat, I am posting my thoughts on the fantastic meat that we offer as well as what some of the best deals currently are.  I don't typically eat a lot of meat, but when I do, I do not like fatty stuff... It makes me gag.  Yes I know some people say grease is what gives it flavor...blah, blah, blah... but I DO NOT LIKE GREASE.

I think that Shelf Reliance has done a wonderful job of finding meat that is lean to please the people who like healthier food like me, but packed full of flavor for people like my husband.  I'm not a huge "chunk of meat" person, but the Beef Chunks totally changed my mind on that.  I have to say they are pretty great.  REALLY GREAT.

Enough already, show me the meat:
Chopped Chicken
To learn more about any of these individual cans of meat, you can click on the picture to be directed to the site.  I am also posting what mine and my customers thoughts are on the different types of meat so you will know what you are getting into :) Awesomeness, just so you know!

Beef Dices
Chopped Chicken: One of the most popular things sold.  LOVE it and sample it at every food demo.

Beef Dices: Newer to the line and a quickly growing favorite. LOVE IT! I know I already told you :)

Ham
Ham: Great but there is a down side.  With most meats they have a 1-2 year shelf life when opened but Ham has only a 2 week shelf life.  If you are buying strictly for food storage this probably wouldn't be a big deal since you would just plan for ham focused meals for a brief time, but if hoping to learn how to use it a little at a time in your home store, it would have to be kept in the fridge or freezer to extend life.

Seasoned Chicken Slices

Seasoned Chicken slices: Great larger pieces of chicken but not very flavorful so you still need to add seasoning.

Sausage Crumbles
Sausage Crumbles: Probably 3rd most popular meat I sell.  Great stuff. A little goes a long way because it is flavorful.  We like to use it on tortilla pizzas, or to make sausage, biscuits and gravy.

Ground Beef

Ground Beef: Probably 2nd most popular.  Our meat is known for being high quality and low fat so you can use less meat than the recipe calls for because there is not a lot of volume wasted on fat that must be cooked out.

Roast Beef
Roast Beef: Least favorite.  Half of my customers love it, half of them are not fans so I would stick with Beef Dices for red meat.

Turkey Dices
Diced Turkey: I hate to admit this but I haven't tried them.  I know, I'm terrible.  I am not a fan of turkey.  My sister-in-law and her sisters love them and I believe they are big part of the reason she joined the company.  Many people were devastated when they were off the market for awhile.  As for me, I'm a nut, I like chicken, however Thanksgiving is not my favorite holiday.  Oh well.  Sorry.

I Just Got Started, Now What?

Alert! Did you see my post about our Instant Milk winning the taste test yesterday? Our Instant Milk Bucket sale is back!  Check out the details here.  Order here.

Jumping into the world of canned food can seem overwhelming at first.  The food seems so foreign because its dried and you're never quite sure when you should rehydrate the food first or just leave it dry.  Thankfully there are many "pioneers" of sorts who have traveled this road long before you so you do not have to reinvent the wheel!

Today I wanted to give you a few places to get started on recipes.  My hopes for October is that I will be able to start some linky parties with other customers and consultants who would like to join in on the fun.  If you are interested in joining in on the fun, please leave a comment with your name and email and I will let you know what the plan will be.  It will be simple and sweet....don't you just love sharing!

Ok, back on focus.  Here's my favorite book for just getting started on food storage.  To order books, or be connected to sites, just click on the picture and you'll be redirected.

My Top Picks for Cookbooks that will get
Your Home Store in Shape:
#1 I Can't Believe It's Food Storage

Crystal goes over all of the basics for people who are just getting started. Has places to set goals with different foods and has you ease your way in. Very handy starter book.

#2 Deals to Meals Blog

Though Shandra doesn’t have a cookbook, she should!  I have developed a “cookbook” of recipes that I have put together from her site all put together on a Microsoft Word document.  I love her and can’t recommend her enough.  Her program that she has with grocery shopping the sales is fun and easy to follow so you know you’re getting a good deal.  I would highly recommend checking out her program as you also get recipes related to the weekly deals on top of the savings.

#3 Our very own THRIVE cookbook :)

This cookbook has alot of helpful conversion charts for those of you who are thinking, okay, I just got started, now what?!

#4 Make a Mix and similar cookbooks

Though Shelf Reliance doesn't sell this one yet, they should.  It has tons of recipes that you can mix into a jar and a-la-ca-zam you’ve got dinner.  She also explains the basics of making mixes from the recipes your family already uses and loves.

#5 The Sneaky Chef and all of the follow up books are AWESOME!

This chef goes beyond recipes.  I love her book because she explains how to combine foods for maximum nutritional benefits.  I have had many customers who have turned our FD food into easy-to-sneak-in partners in crime to create fantastic sneakily healthy recipes.  She also has a website that has tons of free recipes to help you get started.

#6 Volcano Cookbook
Though this is a thin cookbook, it really helps break the ice for people who are just getting started with this alternative cooking lifestyle.  If we had to live without power, this would be one less thing to have to freak out about.  We also sell the Volcano Oven, the full kit as well as the "upgrades".  I can't wait to use mine.

Your Turn: What are your favorite recipe website or book secrets?  I'd love to hear them!

THRIVE Instant Milk Wins Hands Down

If you are trying to decide between Instant Milk and Non-Instant Milk, there are enough alternatives out there to make your head spin.  Really....everyone and their brother has an opinion out there of who is best but very few people have actually tried all that is offered.  Shelf Reliance always strives to be the best but we're biased on thinking we have the best product so we wanted to make sure others agree.

This is the recording of a blind taste test of our milk with all others that are out there.  To make it a completely fair test, we even included store bought milk in the mix to see how we compare to the best competition of all.  Can you guess the results???

Yep, we were #1!  Even before store bought milk....booya!

If you'd like to try it today, email me at ShelfRelianceMom@gmail.com today to request a sample from my home.  Disclaimer, this is from my home.  We are not a GF household so please take that into consideration when asking for this milk.
