Final days for Shelf Reliance Discount- No Coupon Required!

Hello everyone!
It seems like it has been awhile since I've written about any price changes, so I guess that's a good thing.  Now, with summer quickly approaching, the new price list is also coming.  I was relieved that even though gas prices have skyrocketed, Shelf Reliance has kept their prices really low compared to competition. If you were wanting to get in on a few of the cheaper prices before the next price list comes out, here's a list of the products that are having the greatest increase:

FD Mozzerella Cheese - $5
Beef Bouillon - $3
Blackberries - $2.50
FD Broccoli - $2
Mixed Bell Peppers - $2
FD Green Peas - $2
Chocolate Drink Mix - $2
Chicken Bouillon - $1.50

Germade, Barley, Powdered Milk and Beans all had the most significant price raise percentage wise, but all are about $1 more per #10 can. Most of the prices have actually stayed the same (Hooray!)  and there are even quite a few with decreased prices.  (ie. Wait til June before you buy Tomato Powder, Cheese Blend, Baking Powder)  I will be able to send out a price list come the first few days in June.  Remember, this new price list comes into effect at 5pm on June 1st so if you want to cash in on the cheaper prices, please do so BEFORE 5 PM on Wednesday, June 1st.  To get these great prices before the new increase, you can place your order by going to http://www.shelfreliancemom.shelfreliance.com/home or click here.  Please don't forget to log in as that is the way it knows to give you my discount.

If you were interested getting on the Q or buying a shelving unit, I just wanted to let you know about a give-away that I am doing on my blog.  You can visit Win A Free Harvest 72" for more details.  I love my Harvest 72" so I hope that someone else will enjoy getting one for free (or another organizing shelf of their choice :)  If you are wanting to book a party with me to raise your chances, tell me as soon as possible as I will be gone for part of June.  Remember that you will be entered just for placing an order in on my website listed in the previous paragraph if you would still like to be entered but don't want to sign up for the Q.  Here is my blog about the benefits of hosting a party

What's Your Plan?

With all of the different types of disasters that can occur, its difficult to make a plan for every type of situation.  However, for each situation you plan, its one less unknown that you will have to worry about in the future, right?

2 person survival pack
MAKE YOUR OWN KIT
In this emergency preparedness checklist produced by FEMA, it already had a few things I hadn't necessarily thought of doing before:
-For example, I wear contacts, but I never thought about having a pair of glasses for when
       I'd have to flee.
-Know what emergencies are most likely to occur in your area, but also learn your
community's evacuation routes and how you would be warned in an emergency.

I met someone who said that before 9/11 they didn't have TV, but after having that horrific event happen and not even having a clue about it for quite some time, they felt like that was their way to stay connected in case there were ever an extreme emergency.

DO YOU HAVE FAMILY PLANS DOWN ON PAPER?
-Have a "contact person" in your city and out-of-state.  You never know if your
emergency is going to be local or or nationwide.
-Be prepared to have a list of phone numbers in each person's emergency kit so
even if you were all separated, you'd all have people that you know you should call as a
        center contact.
-Have a few different reunion locations for the same reason as having multiple contacts.  If
you were having a neighborhood emergency, your kids should all know to go to this
certain friends house down the street or if it is a city disaster, everyone should head over
to Grandma's house.  If you are someone who is out and about a lot, don't forget to plan for
a place with reasonable walking distance

IS YOUR CAR PREPARED?
-Always keep your gas tank at least half full  and 3/4 full if possible.  You never
know when that might have been your last chance to fill up before fleeing.
-Do you have a good pair of walking shoes in your car in case you happened to be wearing
sandals or high heels while you were out and about?
-Do you have Benedryl in case your children were to have a bad reaction to something
near you but you can't get to medical help?
-Maxi pads to soak up blood wounds?
Solar Raidio

Radio that works by hand crank or solar powered so you don't have to worry about dud batteries?

WHAT IF YOU'RE AT HOME?
-What if you are at home and you were not able to leave?
-Would everyone old enough know how to turn off the water, gas and electricity?  Is there an extra set of car/house keys?
-Does everyone know what important documents would need to be grabbed?
-Are they laminated to keep safe in case you were leaving in a storm?

Obviously all of the possibilities are overwhelming, but it is easy to make small changes today.

If you make copies of all the important documents you'd ever need and a list of phone numbers for doctors and family members, you've prepared a HUGE part of your plan.

Vow today to take at least 1 important step in preparing for a disaster today.

Now I just have to say.....

I am excited that I got my 2 Person Survival Pack in this week.  They had been on back order because they are such an incredible price.  While they retail for $160, consultants are able to sell them for the incredible price of $79.10, a 51% savings!  Consultants will always be able to sell at the lowest price, guarenteed.  I would HIGHLY recommend that you get one while they are still priced so low, because I am not sure when this deal will end.  I know that we are supposed to be getting a new price list soon so we'll see what the price will be in a week.  These are so affordable that I bought one for my house, car and I am buying one for my husband's office.  I just keep thinking about how I never know where I might be when a disaster were to hit and I don't want to be caught unaware.  I dare anyone to try to get such a complete kit for a better price.  The backpacks alone are a fantastic deal as they are a heavy duty sturdy material.  Anyone gone backpack shopping lately?

Dinner in 20 minutes- Easy Chicken and Rice in a Pot

This recipe is one that I use at parties (usually with the cornbread) because it is so simple.  I know that it will turn out perfect even if I am not giving it much attention since I am focusing on the party guests rather than cooking.  It is actually a go-to recipe for me on crazy nights when I don't feel like cooking, but I want to have a home-cooked meal.

Please note that this recipe makes A BUNCH since I use it at parties.  I love having left overs.  Feel free to cut it in half if you are not the type to eat meals 2 nights in a row :)  Since all of THRIVE foods are washed, chopped up and ready to go its easy to create Thrive recipes in a snap!

Easy Chicken and Rice in a Pot
2 c rice
8 c water
1 T THRIVE Butter Powder
4 T THRIVE Chicken Bouillon
1/3 c THRIVE Carrots
1/3 c THRIVE FD Corn
1/3 c THRIVE FD Onions
1/3 c THRIVE FD Peas
1/8 c THRIVE FD Celery
2 cooked chicken breasts or FD Chicken

Throw all of the ingredients into a large pot and bring to a rolling boil.  Turn the heat down and allow to simmer with the lid on for about 20-25 minutes or until rice is cooked.  Use a fork to shred the chicken that is on top of the rice and serve.

Another Time Saving  Tip

While I am on the subject of quick and easy meals, I thought I'd let everyone in on a little secret of mine that makes for quick dinners especially on nights that I don' t feel like cooking.  When I buy a large package of raw chicken breasts from the store, I put them all into a crockpot right when I get home.  I put a little seasoning on them: McCormick Montreal Chicken Seasoning, Chicken Bouillon, or just good old fashioned salt and pepper will do the trick. I allow these babies to cook on low for a few hours until fully cooked.  I put the chicken breast in a variety of freezer bags depending on the amounts I need for different recipes, then pop them in the freezer.  They are wonderully flavored and moist since they cook in their own broth and save tons of oven time, heat (my house gets REALLY hot in the summer so this is a HUGE bonus for me), and money since I don't have to pay to heat up my oven each time I need cooked chicken.  Don't forget to save that leftover broth.  You can either put it into a Rubbermaid container if you know that you are going to be using it within a few days, or freeze it into little ice cubes that you can just throw into soups or rice later to replace the water and add alot more flavor to the dish without the added sodium.
