Meals in Minutes: 5 Minute Taco Night

This Meal in Minutes is brought to you by Tawny at  I thought it was perfect since its about our Qpon product of the month!
Have I mentioned we have a rather crazy dynamic to our household right now?  This mean, it’s incredibly hard to please everyone. I have never been, and will never be, one to make different or special meals for everyone in the household.  Everyone in the family was incredibly happy to hear my new idea for tonight’s dinner: 5 Minute-Please-Everyone-Tacos. With this easy dinner, everyone can make what they like!
I love Taco TVP. It is my number one ‘go to’ item. I use it in everything!
Tonight I made taco, nachos, and a taco salad in less time than it takes to order at the fast food restaurant!! And did so with zero added preservative, salts, or sugar! I fed my family REAL healthy food. And did it in less than 5 minutes!
5 Minute Taco Night
You Will Need:
*Thrive Taco TVP         *Lettuce              *Salsa
*Thrive onions              *Tomatoes          *Corn chips
*Thrive Peppers           *Cheese                *Tortillas
1.Reconstitute enough TVP for your family’s needs. Remember the TVP almost doubles when reconstituted. For example, if you need 1 cup of TVP, reconstitute half a cup. I reconstitute my TVP by covering it in HOT water and letting it sit. I drain off any excess water. 2. Reconstitute onions and peppers to meet you family’s needs. Again, cover with water, let sit, and drain excess water.
3. While your other ingredients are reconstituting, warm your tortillas in the over. I warm mine at 300F for 5 min.
4. Again while other ingredients are reconstituting, chop lettuce and tomatoes.
5. I keep grated cheese in my fridge, but if you don’t, now is a great time to grate that cheese. You could also reconstitute some yummy Thrive freeze dried cheese.
6. Open your chips and salsa.
7. Serve
I serve this ‘buffet style’ and let everyone make his or her own plate. Some make Taco Salad with a salsa dressing, some have tacos, some have nachos, and some have a combination of them all! It is a real crowd pleaser!
This is also GREAT served with Beans! Yummy!!
Who doesn’t love a crowd pleaser that is healthy and can be prepared in less time than it takes to order at a fast food restaurant?

Cooking without electricity or gas? Sun Oven to the Rescue!

Have you heard the buzz about Sun Ovens?  Basically it a contraption that utilizes the suns rays to cook your food.  This is a God-send for campers, RVers and those of us that live in a very hot climate.  Normally here in New Mexico, where the summers can easily reach 110 degrees, you don't heat up house with the oven unless you have to.  Most cooking is done outside on the grill after about mid April.  But now you don't have to sacrifice that homemade bread or chocolate chip cookies just because it is summer!

This is must have for any RVers!  Don't heat up your camper with that oven!  Get a Sun Oven!  In fact, you could even bring this baby to the beach!

At Shelf Reliance we carry the Global Sun Oven.  It retails at $324.89, but through me you can get it for $282.14!  That's $42 savings just for ordering through me!

Federal Reserve Sees a Depression Coming

I received an email today with a video attached from a friend, then read this article from Rena Hearn the Thriving Texas Mama.  Finally I looked up the article to read a little more about it.  I thought I'd post all of these things together so people can see what they think about it.  As you already know, I believe that food is the best investment ever because you can't eat gold and if money fails....guess what everyone is going to wish they had more of?  Plus, if you buy now, you get the price looked in even when huge inflation occurs as many of this food is great for 25 years.  Here you go!

In an article for CNBC, Peter Yastrow, market strategist for Yastrow Origer, said that Wall Street is baffled in trying to figure out the slowing economy.  "What we’ve got right now is almost near panic going on with money managers and people who are responsible for money," he said.

"Interest rates are amazingly low and that, thanks to Ben Bernanke (The Chairman of The Federal Reserve), is driving everything," Yastrow said. "We’re on the verge of a great, great depression. The [Federal Reserve] knows it.

Ever heard the old saying about history repeating itself?  I find it funny the generational difference in opinions sometimes.  With some exceptions, when I visit with someone in the 50 to 65 age range, they don't seem too concerned about food storage.  But when I talk to my grandmother (85) or some one else of her generation about food storage and about stock piling, they wish they had that opportunity during the Great Depression.  It just hit them before they new what was happening.

There was no such thing as freeze dried foods in their day!  Most of what they had was grown themselves and then canned.  It provided what they needed for the next season.  Parts of the country were also experiencing drought at that time.  There was no such thing as sprinkler systems, or those fancy watering devices you see in fields now days.  You know the water sprinklers set on big wagon like wheels that roll down the rows and water the large fields.  They caught rain water in buckets and barrels to water the garden.  My father in law says that his mother used the rain water to wash her hair.

I am no historian, as you can probably tell.  The point I am trying to make is this:  take heed!  When the Federal Reserve knows it coming, the bankers know it is coming and history tells you it is coming, please listen.  You have the opportunity to prepare!

So what if they are wrong?  What are you left with? FOOD!  Delicious and nutritious food.  As the mother of three I am taking the better safe than sorry route!

Meals in Minutes: Taco Soup

Ever gone camping and wished that you had something light weight, quick and easy for dinner that was filling, not greasy and inexpensive....hey me too!  Are you a mom or dad without a whole lot of time to throw dinner together and wish that you could have something healthy and tasty that could be waiting for you in your pantry when dinner time approaches?  I have been reading Dinner is in the Jar by Kathy Clark and making changes to these recipes that make it a little more user friendly for my family.  For example, if I was supposed to be soaking beans overnight and then start simmering them for 2 hours before dinner, it wouldn't have helped me as much as if I had beans that were ready to go.  That is why I LOVE Shelf Reliance Instant Beans.  This first recipe I am posting for you is one that taste's absolutely fabulous and can actually be done in about 20 minutes.  Because you don't have to pre-soak the beans, everything can go in the same bag.  This makes it all the more tempting to rig up 10 bags at once (ok, maybe more like 4) so you have future dinners set and ready to go. Thank you to Kathy Clark who got the seasonings perfect on this one.  Hope you like the Shelf Reliance doctored soup. My husband said I, "have full permission to make this soup again and again."  Basically his way of saying he loves it!  Also, since Taco TVP is the Qpon item of the month, I thought it convenient to include a recipe which would taste great with Taco TVP.

Something else I should mention is that I typically don't put my food in Jars.  I prefer to use those for when I can beans, chicken, meat or veggies so I use mylar bags for my "Meals in Minutes".  To learn more about mylar and oxygen absorbers, this is where I bought mine. These are also very convenient for when you are camping.  Mylar bags are also reusable so you can just trim the top off to open then save them for the next time you fill bags.  I put an oxygen absorber in my bags to keep the product fresh and crisp.  If you are making a meal that you are going to be eating soon  (like in a couple of days) you can use a freezer bag with a good zip lock and it should work just fine.

Taco Soup
Bag Ingredients:
1 c THRIVE Instant Red Beans
1 c THRIVE Instant Pinto Beans
1 1/2 c  THRIVE Freeze Dried Ground Beef THRIVE Beef TVP, or 3/4 c THRIVE Taco TVP (you can substitute 1 lb ground beef instead of THRIVE meat)
1 c THRIVE Freeze Dried corn
2 T THRIVE Mixed Bell Peppers
2 T THRIVE Chopped Onions
1/4 c ranch dressing mix (about 1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Powder)
2 T chili powder
1 t garlic powder
1/4 t THRIVE oregano
1/2 t paprika
2 t cumin
1 t seasoning salt
1/8 t ground black pepper
Pinch of cayenne pepper

Additional Ingredients:
9 c water
2 cans of diced tomatoes (2 1/2 c THRIVE Tomato Dices w/1 c water)

Optional toppings: (I've used THRIVE cheese & sour cream or just regular stuff from the grocery market.  Depends on if you are in a situation with refrigeration or not!)
sour cream
tortilla chips

Bring water to a boil then turn off the heat and immediately add all of the other ingredients from the bag and cover the pot.  Let all of the ingredients sit for 5 minutes to begin rehydrating.  Add tomatoes, recover, then bring to a simmer allowing it to simmer for another 10-15 minutes.   Top individual bowls with shredded cheese, sour cream and crushed tortilla chips.
