Powdered eggs and Cookie Dough, to eat or not to eat... that is the question!

I must admit, this is one of the selling points that made me become a Shelf Reliance Consultant.  I know that sounds pathetic, but let me tell you how amazing these powdered eggs are... I now use them in my muffins, breads, cookies, pancakes, cakes, stir fry... and soon I will be trying them just as scrambled eggs or omelets.  It makes everything fluffier.  In fact, many professional cooks prefer to use powdered eggs because they get consistent results EVERY TIME!!!

CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE
This was the first  item I bought THRIVE foods from Shelf Reliance because I was a little skeptical and wanted to compare some prices. I thought I would see how they were able to price the eggs the way they did for parties thinking, there must be a huge mark up because they are selling it at a party. I was totally shocked when I saw that a competitor is selling a #10 can for $18. Our #10 can goes for around $20 give or take depending on sales... but here's the magic... the other company's can had around 80 and ours has 236!!! Yes that is right, 236.  I used to be excited when the grocery store had a dozen eggs on sale for less than a dollar but that is the price you ALWAYS get.  Plus, if you were to have a party and use 50% off credit to get them...you would have only spent around $10 for 20 DOZEN eggs!!! You will never run out of eggs when you are making cookies again.

Okay, so where am I going with this?
One day I was thinking about food storage and wondered how would I be able to store enough eggs for my family for a year.  The shelf life of eggs is 4-5 weeks depending on how they were refrigerated. That is 4-5 weeks from when the chicken laid the egg, so by the time it made it from the farm, to your grocery store, then to your fridge, it actually only has about 3-4 weeks.  Then, there is the problem of storing eggs. My family uses about 3-4 dozen a month, so we use about 500 eggs. Where do you find the room to store 42 cartons of eggs? In 2 convenient #10 cans, of course!

YOU CAN EAT THE COOKIE DOUGH!
Oh, I forgot to mention the BEST part of all.  The process they use in freeze drying the eggs kills all of the Salmonella.  What does that mean? No more getting mad at the kids for snitching in the cookie dough.  When you are craving cookie dough and you are pregnant, you can just give in!  Also it isn't so messy for when you are doing fun things like caramelizing pecans or making those cinnamon sugar almonds that they sell at the mall.  Powdered eggs are amazing.

Homemade Cream Soups

I am not a huge fan of preservatives and ingredients that I have trouble pronouncing, so this has become one of my favorite things to make. Its quick, its easy and of course, it helps me use food storage ingredients so I LOVE IT!!! This is just a basic recipe, but you can google Homemade cream of______ whatever type you might be looking for and it will help you decide if there are any extras you'd like to add to your own.  I know a lot of you are saying, what a hassle to have to make something you can just pour out of a can, but let me tell you how easy it is.  I usually just make 6x this recipe then freeze it in individual bags so its ready when I need it.

Host Benefits

The thing I love best about Shelf Reliance is that they have wonderful benefits for hosting a party while maintaining comparable or better prices from competition.  I will list  some of the benefits they have and you can let me know if that is something in which you'd be interested! Also, for those of you who don't like to have people in your home, they have catalog parties and online parties.  This is a nice option if you live in cold weather and people don't really want to get out, or if you are busy and don't really have the time to have people over.  If you do decide to do something like this, let me know and I can give you some sample bags to pass around at work or to friends so people can taste what THRIVE is all about.  If you do decide to host a party at your home, not only will you get to sample some of the fruits and veggies dry, but we will also make a recipes only from THRIVE ingredients so people can see the ease of cooking with the food.  I will also try to remember to bring recipes for each of the things I make and post them online so people have the option of ordering those items and recreating the meal at home! Just send me an email if you are interested in hosting a party because I am currently booking my December, January and February appointments.  If you would like to attend a party first, email me and I would be glad to send you an invitation to one of my parties so you can sample the food first. I know you're going to LOVE it!

Host Benefits
Free Product: You will receive 10% of the total sales from your party in free product. For instance, if your party sales are $800, you will receive $80.00 in free product at retail price.
Half Off: The total sales at your party determines how much you will receive in half off merchandise. For example, if your party total is $800, you will receive $150.00 to spend on products that are half off the retail price. In other words, you only pay $75.00 for $150.00 in product. The chart below lists the 50% off discounts you can earn.
$400 - $799                               Up to $100 (retail price)
$800 - $1199                             Up to $150 (retail price)
$1,200 - $1,599                         Up to $200 (retail price)
$1,600 - $1,900                         Up to $250 (retail price)
$2,000 - $2,999                         Up to $300 (retail price)
$3,000 - $3,999                         Up to $400 (retail price)
$4,000 +                                     Up to $500 (retail price)
The Q: This program makes purchasing Shelf Reliance products easy and affordable for you and your guests. The Thrive Q is a wonderful way for you to build your food supply, while maintaining your current grocery budget. It is fully customizable, so you can choose the foods you want and set the total amount you want to spend each month. After you set the parameters for your THRIVE Q, every month you will receive one shipment of delicious THRIVE foods right to your front door.
The THRIVE Q benefits the host because he/she will receive triple the credit for every guest that signs up on the Q. In other words, if someone attends your party and signs up for the Q at $100 per month, you would receive a $300 credit as the host.
Q Club: The Q Club is an exclusive rewards program that offers its members fantastic Shelf Reliance discounts, gifts, and other perks. The Q Club membership ensures that you always receive the best pricing on all Shelf Reliance products.  A Platinum membership typically costs $79.99, with a yearly renewal fee of $19.99. However, you and your guests will receive the Platinum membership for free, for life if you sign up for the THRIVE Q at the party.
From Guest to Host: If one of your party guests signs up to host their own Shelf Reliance party, you will earn another $100 (retail) at half off.
Double Dip Promotion: If someone buys product at your party, and also signs up to host their own party, you get the credit at your party, and they get the credit at their party as well. This prevents people from withholding orders until they host their own party.

For example, if you were to sell $1000 at a party and had 2 people sign up for a party and 1 person sign up for the Q for 50 a month...
The Q would count as 150 in sales, plus the 1000 from the party adds to 1150 in sales.  If you had previously spent 50 at a party, your double dip promotion would bring you to 1200 in sales.  This would mean you would get $120 in free product at retail price, $200 in half off items from the sales and $200 in half off items from the people who signed up for future parties.  Not bad for opening up your house for an hour and a half, right?!!!

For those of you who know that you would like food storage, but don't have the time to search for deals all of the time, the Q is awesome.  It is an automated service that allows you to choose which type of items you would like to have, set your budget for each month, and it ships to your house on the same day each month.  It chooses items from the list that you have chosen and generally chooses items that are onsale.  If you don't want the items it has selected yet, and know you want something else sooner, you can easily adjust it to what you want. The best part about it is you receive PARTY PRICES for life!  Let me know if you'd like to know more about this awesome program.  I can send you a video that explains more about it or we can schedule a time that I can come to your home and give you a little consultation.  There is only a 90 day commitment so if you are not satisfied, you can stop at anytime.

December Party Sales Prices

I know that I'm a little bit like a broken record when I tell people that I only buy stuff when its on sale, but I figure there are other people out there who are like me...right?! Well for those of you out there who love a great deal, I thought I'd let you in on the December Party Prices that you can get by placing your order through me! All of these prices are for #10 size cans.  Remember that if you order a case (a box of 6 #10 cans), you receive an additional 5 % off making it an incredible price for anything you need to stock up on.

First up.... Apple chips. I love these because they are wonderful as a quick, easy snack or in baking.  Banana slices-just add water and you've got a perfect pancake topping, mush for banana breads or other baked goods. Raspberries are wonderful in smoothies and toppings for desserts.  Now you don't have to worry about only using part of the box from the grocery store and having the rest go bad. Carrots that you don't even have to DICE, just add to your soup. Peas... another soup or casserole must have. Tomato powder will make your homemade sauce (or paste) easy and taste fantastic.  Make as much or as little as you need without wasting any sauce. TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) once considered to be uneatable is actually good. I've tried the TVP beef in a taco seasoned queso dip,  the ham in a stir fry, and will soon try the Chicken. They're great! Finally, the drink mixes... though I haven't tried the peach, the apple drink mix smelt divine from the instant I opened it.  I haven't tried it plain, but I used it to make my Waissal recipe which you can find here on my blog.

Cansolidator Pantry Drawing

In order to introduce people to my new Shelf Reliance Blog, I am holding a drawing.  The only thing you have to do to enter is make a comment beneath this post with your favorite food storage tip, recipe or cooking trick.  ANYONE in the US can enter.  I will put a basic example below, but will not put any real creative ones on unless it looks like people need some help to get the creative juices flowing!  If you post a creative trick or cooking tip I've never heard of, or a recipe that I make into a "THRIVE recipe" that I post on my blog I will enter you in twice.  If you don't know any tricks, just google it and you will find a plethora of ideas on the web. I figure this is a great way to get new ideas out there!

In order to rotate through my wheat supply and keep my family used to its flavor and texture, I use at least 50% wheat in all of my recipes that call for flour. (I like the saying that they use for the new mypyramid that says "Make half your grains whole!")  This is a much healthier way to get the added nutrients and oils from the flour without making a huge switch on your family.

If you want to learn more about the product I am raffling off, just click on the picture of the Cansolidator Pantry on my homepage and it will take you to the Shelf Reliance website. It holds up to 40 cans and is absolutely wonderful from what I hear!

Thrive Apple Pancakes

As a kid, I always hated pancakes (execpt from IHOP) .   I think that everyone I ever knew always made them from Bisquick so I guess it makes a little sense.  These pancakes are not only TONS healthier since they are made from wheat flour, rather than white and have applesauce instead of oil and apples... they are also amazing, moist, fluffy and DELICIOUS!!! I made them for my husband's family this weekend and my father-in-law (who's tough to please at times) says they are the "best pancakes in the world!" I adapted this recipe from the Deals to Meals Blog. You should check out her other amazing recipes as well as the service she offers for people who dread couponing but still want to stock up on sales!

Apple Cinnamon Wheat Pancakes
3/4 c. water

1/2 c. THRIVE Apple Chips blended in the food processor to make smaller, fine chips
1 3/4 c. water
1/3 c. THRIVE Instant or non-fat dry powdered milk
2 T. THRIVE powdered eggs

1/2 c. applesauce
1 T. lemon juice
4 T. oil
2 T. sugar

2 t. baking powder
1/2 c. white flour
1 1/2 c. wheat flour
2 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. nutmeg
¾ t. salt
¾ t. soda

(Optional topping, but totally worth it!!!)
1 c. chopped pecans
1 T. THRIVE egg powder
2 T. warm water
1/2 c. white sugar
1 T. brown sugar
1/4 t. cinnamon

1. Place crushed apple chips and 3/4 c. water in a separate bowl to allow to soak.
2. If making the pecan mixture, add water and powdered eggs into a small cereal both and mix well. Add pecans to eggs and thoroughly coat.  In another cereal bowl mix together sugars and cinnamon and mix well.  Add egg coated pecans to sugar mixture and coat well.  Cover broiling pan with foil and spread sugar coated pecans onto foil.
2. Heat 1 3/4 c. water in a large bowl in the microwave for a minute. Add powdered eggs,  powdered milk, and lemon juice to the hot water. Add applesauce, oil and sugar.
3. In a separate bowl add all of the dry ingredients and whisk together to thoroughly mix.
4. Add apple chips to wet ingredients, then add dry ingredient mixture.
5. Butter the frying pan, then scoop 1/3 c. of mixture per pancake. If doing pecan topping stick them in to broil for 3-5 minutes depending on how hot your broil is.
6. Serve with carmelized pecans and a little maple syrup. Serves 4-6 people.

Let the Recipes begin!

Everyone who knows me at all knows I love to find and try new recipes.  I was wanting to try out my new Thrive Apple Drink mix (which smelt amazing as soon as I began opening the can, yum!), but knew I wanted to do something different than just the regular Apple Drink.  Last Saturday I was at a baby shower where they had Wassail and I was in Heaven.  I loved this hot drink which was perfect for the beginning of Winter in good ole New Mexico. I adapted my own recipe from a few online at allrecipes.com. If you have some Thrive Apple Drink mix already, you should give this a try if you like Apple Cider-y drinks. New to Shelf Reliance? Come to one of my upcoming parties or host your own to try this fabulous taste of the Christmas season!

     Tiffany’s Thrive Wassail
1 ½ c Thrive Apple Drink                   ½ t ground cloves
12 c water                                              1 t ground cinnamon
1 ½ c Orange Juice                               dash ginger
2 T Brown Sugar                                 dash nutmeg
¾ c pineapple juice                               ½ t lemon juice
Slow Cook
Combine water and Thrive Apple Drink mix, then add remaining ingredients. Stir occasionally.  Let sit on low 6-8 hours. For added flavor, you can cook with 2-3 cinnamon sticks.
In a Hurry!
In a saucepan combine half of the water and Thrive Apple Drink mix and stir until well mixed. Add the remaining water and other ingredients and bring to a boil.  Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20-30.  This method works best with real cinnamon sticks and a few whole cloves.
